A Bridge Between Two Realms

Updated: May 5, 2019

A medium bridges the gap between the spiritual and physical realms, acting as a channel for Spirit to deliver messages from those who have passed away to those still living.

Becoming a Medium

The first time I connected with a spirit was in 2016. I was alone in my bedroom when I felt a sudden jolt of energy push through my body, as if a giant gust of wind had blown right through me. My intuition told me this was a spirit of a deceased human being that I had never known before -a spirit unrelated to me. Although I was initially overwhelmed, I was not afraid.

A few weeks after this happened, I began having persistent thoughts about my roommate’s grandmother, who I had never met and who had passed away before I met my roommate. After two days of these thoughts, I asked my roommate if his grandmother’s birthday or date of passing had been around this time of year. He said no, but then told me that he dreamt his grandmother visited him a few nights prior. He hadn’t dreamt about her in years.

I was on the right track. I had picked up on his grandmother’s spirit, but was unable to interpret what she was trying to say and why she wanted to communicate it through me... so I asked her for a sign. The next morning, I was awoken by a whisper… “banana.” Yep, banana. Had I gone bananas? Most likely, I thought, but nonetheless went about my day. I was listening to a podcast on my way home from work in which the host of the show used “banana” as an example. I initially thought it was weird because it seemed random, and out of all the metaphors in the world, to tie in a “banana” was too synchronistic. I brushed it off.

Once I got home, my roommates and I were talking about a trip they were planning. I remember to this day how clearly my roommate with the deceased grandmother said, “Well, want to know what I’m most excited for in Punta Cana? Honestly, I just want to eat a banana.” My eyes almost popped out of my head. That was it. The sign that I asked for. Not just once, but twice, grandma delivered. In the car, on my way to my roommate, and again when he was sitting in front of me. I told my roommate that I thought his grandma wanted me to tell him that when he dreamt of her, it wasn’t just a dream - her spirit and his were together, visiting one another in the astral realm. It was such a simple message, but he cried.

That was my first reading. I had no idea what I was doing, or what was happening, but it felt as if somehow, it was pre-destined. I may not have known how to channel what was being communicated from Spirit, but Spirit knew I had the ability to tap into the Spirit realm - to not only hear them, but to genuinely listen to them and allow them to speak through me.

Communicating with Spirit

Spirit communicates with me through my non-physical senses, called the clairs. While we all have clair senses, most Lightworkers — spiritual warriors, psychics, and healers — are deeply in tune with these higher senses.

Claircognizance means “clear knowing”—you just know something to be so, without any logical reasoning, facts, or context. Claircognizance is a difficult sense to fully comprehend because the information comes through as my own thoughts; there isn’t a different voice, sense of energy, or picture in my imagination - just a strong intuition that pops into my head.

Clairvoyance means “clear seeing” and it suggests you have a very activated visual imagination! Spirit loves to communicate with me clairvoyantly. When I say I see something, it doesn’t mean I'm seeing your passed love one behind you playing charades. It means I’m seeing them in my mind’s eye. I naturally see images and scenes of prominent moments in time flash by like a very fast-forwarded movie.

Clairaudience means “clear hearing.” At times, like with my roommate’s grandmother, I can hear things so clearly as if I was listening to someone speaking aloud to me. Other times, it’s as if I hear things in my mind, like when you get a song stuck in your head.

Clairsentience means “clear feeling.” It is when you can download information through something tangible. By holding an old photograph, an item of clothing, or something like a tea cup or piece of jewelry, you can connect to and receive information from its past owner.

Though not necessarily a “clair,” being an empath, or highly sensitive person, also helps me connect with Spirit. I’m able to physically and emotionally absorb the feelings and thoughts of people and Spirits around me.

In fact, Spirit often enables me to feel the sensations they felt when they passed. While this may seem morbid, being able to validate this information is an important factor to me as a medium because these details allow me to support and prove to a client that I’m not connecting with just any person, but their person. For example, if a client’s grandfather passed from lung cancer, I will most likely experience coughing; in these cases, I’ve even felt constricted breathing and as if I’ve had an endotracheal tube in my throat. I feel this as if it were happening to me and in my own body.

Exercising the use of our higher senses helps me connect to deceased loved ones. The information I receive from Spirit is meant to bring closure, promote healing, and provide validation that our loved ones are still with us.

Knowing that Spirit is always present and available to offer guidance and support to us as they continue their own soul journey has brought me much peace, purpose, and fulfillment. I believe I have been given the responsibility to share this feeling through facilitating the connection between those still living with those who have passed— to bridge the gap between our physical reality and life beyond.

Come explore the Spirit realm with me— let’s glimpse into the magic behind the veil.
